I WISH IT WAS MORNING.

In the morning, sleep or no seep, im going for a 10km run

i love running and wish it was morning.. now

i want to start running but I’m scared i won’t get into it/i’ll gain lots of muscle

Lissy, DO IT; you’d love it, I promise you.

When I started I could only run for a minute at a time - though I could swim all day - but now it’s like a physical meditation to flow over the ground like air, to just carry on without faltering. It’s beautiful. Your muscles will harden but won’t grow enormously in size unless you’re doing power work, sprints and such, but you’ll strengthen both those and your emotional coping as it’s another form of stress to which your body and mind will grow accustomed. Longer runs will help you so much with anxiety and feeling all tangled up inside.. I feel as though the farther and longer I run, to a greater degree all those knots are stretching out behind me in one clean long string, losing their tension and tangles to stream out unknotted and free. It’s the purest thing you can do, like breathing.

I ran 18kms this morning, my longest after suffering injury following the marathon in July, and to do a new longest-since (if not longest-yet) was the most incredible feeling. I knew that no matter what happened later that day, what went down, it was one part of my life that was wholly up to me and in which I wrote my own story. I’d already succeeded there, so regardless of what others bring to my day I’d already brought an elation and freedom to it myself that nobody else could mar. It helps to think of when the day’s rough, or my emotions are otherwise shit. It’s grounding yet uplifting at the same time; and yes, even when you’re just starting out and things kinda hurt and complain, you still get those feelings!

Let me know if you want a hand to get going, I can write you a wee program or guideline. Not scary PROGRAMomgzz, but just how to start, how to get moving without walking like the tinman for the rest of the week. How to start running without it hurting and things feeling jolty and wrong and so that you can enjoy it from your very first steps.

Truly, it keeps me alive.
